Special Policies for Fall 2020
Safe Return to
Campus Statement
- All students taking courses with a face-to-face component are
required to take Safe Return to Campus Training prior to
visiting campus. Training is available in Blackboard (https://mymason.gmu.edu).
Students are required to follow the university's public health
and safety precautions and procedures outlined on the university
Safe Return to Campus webpage (https://www2.gmu.edu/safe-return-plan).
- All students must wear a face covering and observe physical
distancing rules.
- All students in face to face and hybrid courses must also
complete the Mason COVID Health Check daily, seven days a week.
The COVID Health Check system uses a color code system. Students
will receive either a Green, Yellow, or Red email response. Only
students who receive a "green" notification are permitted to
attend courses with a face-to-face component.
- If you suspect that you are sick or have been directed to
self-isolate, please quarantine or get testing.
- Faculty are allowed to ask you to show that you have received
a Green email and are thereby permitted to be in class.
Course Format
- Most students are scheduled to be in class either on Tuesday
or on Thursday, and to participate remotely on the other day.
Some students have signed up for an all-virtual section.
- When a lab is scheduled, it will be held in class twice --
once on Tuesday and once on Thursday. Most weeks when
there is a lab, there will also be a recorded lecture for you to
listen when you can. Students may participate in both lab
sessions for additional practice if desired, but must come to
class only on their designated day.
- When no lab is scheduled, class may be entirely virtual. If
so, this will be announced in advance.
Provision for Campus Closure
- If the campus closes or class is canceled due to weather or
other concern, students should check Blackboard and email for
updates on how to continue learning and information about any
changes to events or assignments.
- All instruction will be virtual after the Thanksgiving break.
Students not Running Windows
- This class requires the CORE model-based systems engineering
software. This software runs only on Windows.
- CORE is available in the VSE labs in Room 1506 ENGR, but will
not be available after Thanksgiving or if the university moves
to all virtual instruction.
- If you are using a Macintosh computer, you should install
VMWare Fusion, then create a Windows OS virtual machine.
Instructions on how to perform this can be found here.
Accommodations for Circumstances
- We are all adjusting to exceptional circumstances and learning
as we are going.
- If you are experiencing stress or other difficulties, please
take advantage of student
support resources on campus.
- If you need additional time on assignments, please contact me
to discuss reasonable accommodations.
- My goal is to help you learn and succeed. I will work with you
to help you overcome difficulties.
