DSS Discussion Question 4: Dialog Subsystem
Initial Response due 12:00 AM October 1, 2006 (Saturday night
/ Sunday morning)
This week's discussion focuses on the dialog system. The
objective of the discussion is to prototype ideas for capturing inputs
and displaying
outputs.
- Choose an operational scenario from the list included with the draft operational concept. State which operational scenario you are considering.
- Develop one or more pictures illustrating what the user sees
during the process of entering inputs and/or examining outputs.
You may add labels to your picture that are not part of what the user
sees, so that you can refer to the labels in your description.
- Describe the sequence of interactions
between the user and the system. Include the operations the user
performs
and the responses of the system. Refer to your picture as
necessary to describe exactly what happens (e.g., "User moves mouse to
the field labeled "A," clicks, and enters the course number.")
- Comment on the reasons for your design choices, referring to the
principles of effective human computer interaction we discussed in
class.
Open discussion will be via WebCT.
Please post at least one message during the general discussion
period.
Be prepared to discuss the issues raised in the dialogue in class on
October 3. Your final response should address all the questions
listed above.
Your final response is due by 7:00 PM October 6 by email to the
instructor at klaskey@gmu.edu.
Final responses should be less than one page
in length.
