The objective of this week's discussion question is to agree on a template for GOAT. The class consensus is that GOAT will be accessed via a web browser. A web template establishes a format that all pages in a site must conform to. It includes headers and navigation bars that appear on every page, font and color conventions, items (such as copyright notices and organization logos) that must appear on every page, and other conventions that the design team will adhere to. (For some examples, see the Open Web Design open source project.)
Your final submission should be an html file or screen image that shows the template you recommend, and a brief discussion of the rationale for your design choices. During the general discussion period, I expect some of the students to submit sugggested web templates. I expect a discussion about the rationale for the design choices and a comparison of the suggestions of the different students. A good resource for this discussion is the Web Style Guide. Your discussion should address how your template would contribute to productive use of the DSS.
